Radix Nutrition is a food company with an exciting vision — one that I really believe in — and I am thrilled to join their team as a Brand Ambassador.
Radix Nutrition is on a mission to deliver nutritionally excellent, high performance freeze-dried meals that use 100% natural and mostly organic ingredients. It’s food that fuels exercise and adventure. And I love this.
Recently, I read the Scientific Report of the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, presented to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. I was shocked to read its findings.
The Report states that roughly half of all Americans (117 million people) have “one or more preventable, chronic diseases that are related to poor quality dietary patterns and physical inactivity” (Part B. Chapter 2, pg. 1).
This statement blew me away. While I hope the New Zealand population is healthier than their American counterparts, I was first struck by the strength of the link between diet, exercise, and general health and wellbeing. Second, I was struck by the enormous need for better food.
Perhaps this struck a cord with me because healthy eating and exercise is something that I am passionate about. A nutritionally excellent diet, coupled with exercise and stress management, is what got me tramping and climbing again, after I was diagnosed with MS. While diseases like Multiple Sclerosis were not mentioned as a preventable, chronic disease in the Report, doctors like George Jelinek and Terry Wahls have shown that diet and exercise can significantly help those with MS. I have found this to be true.
However, the desire to eat well while tramping and climbing has always presented a challenge. Nutritionally excellent freeze-dried meals have always been hard to come by — not least gluten- and dairy-free meals that are also nutritionally excellent. I’ve tried dehydrating my own, but this is always a bit of a hassle and often inconvenient to use.
That’s until I discovered Radix Nutrition’s meals. All their meals are gluten-free and most are also dairy-free. They have an awesome range of meals, catering not only to the requirements of high-performance activities, but also to the nutritional requirements of everyday life.
For me, Radix means that I can eat well and push my body. And that’s why I am excited to be on their team.
